Artists' Salon: Harpists, Barbary Grant and Verlene Schermer.

Barbary Grant and Verlene Schermer will play their harps and discuss the interplay between music and healing. Barbary and Verlene met almost 10 years ago at Harpers Hall, a South Bay music group. They are part of a team of six musicians who circulate through the Stanford Hospital & Clinics and Lucile Packard Children's Hospital responding to calls to play in patient rooms. Thanks to generous donors, they provide music at no cost to patients in intensive care units, maternity wards, infusion centers, and other areas. An award-winning singer and harpist, Verlene Schermer presents a diverse, upbeat style of music that leans toward contemporary jazz and blues. She accompanies her dynamic, versatile voice on folk harp, electric harp, double-strung harp, and cross-strung harp. The power to evoke deep feeling lured Barbary Grant from a successful career as a classical pianist into the lyrical world of traditional Celtic music. Now her rich Irish harp and crystal-clear voice breathe new life into the old songs of the Gael. Barbary and Verlene's CD's will be available for sale at the salon.
