BLACKstage presents THE WIZ

The Wiz is a black created production of the classic tale, The Wizard of Oz. The story takes place in Kansas and the fictional land of Oz, and very closely follows the original plot of the award-winning novel. The Wiz touches on themes of exploration, travel, discovery, and identity. The unique history of The Wiz, as a black recreation of a classic American story, has the additional weight of embodying America's complicated history with race and, specifically, black communities.

This production, featuring a diverse range of peoples, will help raise conversations about race in the media and bring the topic of underrepresented bodies in the arts, and in life, to the front of people's minds.

Showings will be on Thursday, March 1st and Friday, March 2nd at 8:00pm, as well as Saturday, March 3rd at 1:30pm and 8:00pm.

This event is free for children under 5 years of age and for undergraduate students with a SUID; $5 for graduates, staff, and faculty with ID and $10 for the public. Click here to purchase tickets.
