Carney is Professor of Geography at UCLA with research interests in Africa, cultural/political ecology, African diaspora, and development studies. Professor Carney teaches courses on African ecology and development, gender and rural development, and environment and food systems.

A short introduction to International Women's Day will be followed by remarks from Dr. Karen Offen, Senior Scholar at the Clayman Institute, about the International Museum of Women, and the keynote address will be delivered by Marilyn Boxer, Professor of History Emerita at San Francisco State University.
