Faculty Fellows' Lunch Featuring Leslie Hill

Leslie Hill: "Suffrage, Sex and the Stage: Early Feminism in British Drama"

Leslie Hill marks the centenary of women’s suffrage by reflecting back on the pivotal role of actresses and playwrights in dramatizing early feminist causes in theatres and in the streets and the emergence of new roles for female characters within British Drama from the cigar smoking ‘new woman’ Vivie Warren in Mrs. Warren’s Profession to the socially deft suffragist Vida Levering in Votes for Women!

Leslie Hill is Associate Professor (Teaching) of Performance Making in the Stanford Department of Theatre and Performance Studies and co-director of Curious theatre company.
