The technology industry drives innovation, fueling a large portion of the world economy, yet still comes under fire for underrepresentation of women and pay discrepancies between men and women. Despite efforts to change the status quo, current research shows persistent gender pay gaps. In part, the gap can be attributed to bias in the workplace that can affect a range of workplace practices, such as hiring, performance management, access to leadership and more. Further, occupational segregation by gender can limit pathways to professional growth and higher paying fields. This roundtable event invited leaders of business and academia to discuss economic and academic data substantiating the gender pay gap, and explore initiatives and ideas to narrow and eliminate the gender pay gap in tech.
