Alyssa Goldstein Sepinwall
Graduate Dissertation Fellow 1997-1998, History

Alyssa received her Ph.D. in History from Stanford in 1998, and is Professor of History at California State University - San Marcos.  Her book Haitian History: New Perspectives will be published by Routledge in summer 2012.  It offers a one-volume introduction to the field of Haitian history, helping to explain how the promise of the Haitian Revolution dissipated, and presenting the major debates and questions in the field today  She continues to work in French history, particularly on issues of race, religion and gender, and is the author of a recent essay on sexuality, Orthodoxy and modernity in the work of the French filmmaker Karin Albou.
