Ben Allen
Graduate Dissertation Fellow 2016-17, Modern Thought & Literature
Graduate Voice & Influence Program 2016-17

Ben Allen is a PhD candidate in Modern Thought and Literature. His research interests involve representations of computer programming. His current work focuses on representations of gender and computing in the 1950s and 1960s, the time period wherein computer programming shifted from being a relatively gender balanced field to being largely male-dominated. Uncovering how the idea of programming as a gendered-male field were established can help shed light on means to reconceptualize programmers and programming in the present day.
