Claire Rydell Arcenas
Graduate Voice & Influence Program Fellow 2015-2016, History

Claire Rydell Arcenas is a doctoral candidate in the Department of History. Claire received her B.A. in Classics and History from the University of Wisconsin.  Claire’s research interests include the intellectual, cultural, and political history of the United States. Her dissertation, “Inventing an American Political Tradition: How John Locke Became ‘America’s Philosopher,’” traces the reception of John Locke in America from the Revolutionary Era through the Civil Rights Movement.  She is also involved in the Mapping the Republic of Letters project through the Stanford Center for Spatial and Textual Analysis.
