Terry Castle
Walter A. Haas Professor in the Humanities

Terry Castle is Professor of English who has taught at Stanford since 1983.  A writer and critic, Castle has published eight books and many journal articles. Her scholarly interests include eighteenth-century British fiction, the Gothic novel, Jane Austen, the First World War, English art and culture of the 1920s and 1930s, autobiography and biography, gay and lesbian writing and the history of photography. Art plays an increasingly important role in Castle's creative life. She works in collage and mixed media, photography, gouache and acrylic, chalk pastel, and digital imagery. A number of her works have been reproduced in magazines and she has provided book cover imagery for several trade and university publishers.
