Hazel Markus is the Davis-Brack Professor of Behavioral Sciences in the Department of Psychology in the School of Humanities & Sciences. She is also a Director of the Mind, Culture, and Society Lab at Stanford University. She received her B.A. in Psychology from the California State University, San Diego (1970), and went on to earn her Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor (1975).

Her research interests focus on the sociocultural shaping of mind and self; how gender, ethnicity, religion, social class, cohort, and region or country of national origin may influence thought and feeling, particularly self-relevant thought and feeling.
