Jean Ma
Associate Professor of Art and Art History, Director of Graduate Studies for Art History

Jean Ma received her Ph.D. from the University of Chicago in Cinema and Media Studies. Recent publications include Melancholy Drift: Marking Time in Chinese Cinema (2010) and Still Moving: Between Cinema and Photography (2008). Her research interests include contemporary Chinese-language cinema, avant-garde cinema, early cinema, critical theory, and film theory. Her dissertation focused on the work of director Hou Hsiao-hsien. She is currently working on a book on the songstress in postwar Hong Kong film.
