Kristi Mitchem
CEO, Wells Fargo Asset Management

Kristi Mitchem is president, chief executive officer, and head of Wells Fargo Asset Management. Ms. Mitchem also serves on the Operating Committee of the Wealth and Investment Management Group and is a member of Wells Fargo Management Committee. Prior to joining Wells Fargo in 2016, Ms. Mitchem had served as executive vice president, head of the Americas Institutional Client Group and member of the Executive Management Group at State Street Global Advisors (SSGA), the investment management arm of State Street Corporation. As head of the Americas Institutional Client Group, she led the strategic direction and growth of the business, delivering investment solutions to institutional clients in the US, Latin America and Canada. In this role, Ms. Mitchem also managed global consultant relations as well as the firm’s global cash and defined contribution initiatives. Prior to heading the Americas Institutional Client Group, Ms. Mitchem led SSGA’s Global Defined Contribution business where she worked to transform SSGA’s standing in the retirement marketplace. While at State Street, Ms. Mitchem was a passionate advocate for issues supporting diversity and inclusion and was a driving force in bringing to market the SPDR Gender Diversity Index ETF (NYSEArca: SHE), a fund designed to invest in U.S. companies committed to advancing the roles women play on their management and boards. Before joining SSGA, Ms. Mitchem worked at BlackRock (and the former Barclays Global Investors) as a Managing Director and Head of the US Defined Contribution business and as the Head of US Transition Services. She began her career at Goldman Sachs, where she held various sales and management roles over the course of 9 years. Ms. Mitchem has more than 17 years of experience in the asset management, defined contribution and equities markets. She was named one of Treasury & Risk’s “Top 100 Influential People” in 2008, has been featured in BusinessWeek and has appeared on PBS’ WealthTrack, CNBC, Fox Business and CNN. Ms. Mitchem has testified in Washington, D.C. in support of improving retirement security, and is named in several patents pending for retirement income solutions. Ms. Mitchem earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from Davidson College, where she graduated summa cum laude and was awarded First Honors. She received her Master of Business Administration from Stanford Graduate School of Business, where she was an Arjay Miller Scholar. She is also a Fulbright Scholar.
