Laura Wittman

Laura Wittman is an Associate Professor of French and Italian, as well as the Chair of Undergraduate Studies in Italian, in the School of Humanities and Sciences. She received her B.A. in French (with Distinction) and Italian (with Exceptional Distinction), as well as her Ph.D., from the Department of Italian Language and Literature, from Yale University. 

Her work primarily focuses on 19th- and 20th-century Italian and French literature from a comparative perspective, and she is interested in connections between modernity, religion, and politics. Much of her work explores the role of the ineffable, the mystical, and the body in modern poetry, philosophy, and culture.
