Mana Nakagawa
PhD candidate in the Stanford Graduate School of Education International Comparative Education Program
Graduate Voice & Influence Program Fellow 2014-2015

Mana Nakagawa is a Clayman Graduate Dissertation Fellow and PhD candidate in the Stanford Graduate School of Education International Comparative Education Program. She received a B.A. in Sociology from the University of Pennsylvania and an M.A. in Sociology from Stanford University. For the past year, Mana has worked closely with Sheryl Sandberg on her recent bestseller Lean In: Women, Work and the Will to Lead, working on the international research efforts for the book’s release in nearly 50 countries. 

Her research focuses on gender equality issues in higher education. Her dissertation examines cross-national trends in female faculty attainment in higher education and how these trends relate to family leave policies around the world.
