Artist's Salon Featuring Documentary Filmmaker, Kristine Samuelson

Kristine Samuelson is a professor in the Department of Art and Art History at Stanford, where she serves as the Director of the Film and Media Studies Program and the Documentary Film and Video MFA Program. She is also an Academy Award nominee for Arthur and Lillie, a documentary short.For her winter salon, Samuelson will show clips from two earlier works and then work in progress from her new film, An Abundance of Crows. This film considers about cultural differences and the meaning of nature in a most unnatural world, set in a fascinating world city—using as armature the story of a smart, large, beautiful black bird.Samuelson makes her films in partnership with her husband, John Haptas, who works as a freelance documentary editor. They recently returned from living in Tokyo, where they shot this film during a 2010 US-Japan Creative Arts Fellowship.
