Faculty Fellows' Lunch Featuring Bonnie Maldonado

Bonnie Maldonado: "The Role of Gender in Patient Satisfaction Scores."

Professor Maldonado analyzed patient satisfaction scores of physicians at the Stanford Hospitals and Clinics. All patients treated at Stanford Hospitals receive a survey about their experiences and the “Likelihood to Recommend” or LTR scores is often used as a metric of the effectiveness of Stanford's physician faculty with respect to patient care. She examined these patient scores by physician and patient gender in both the hospital outpatient setting as well as the emergency room to understand the role of gender in evaluations of medical care. Gender discrepancies exist in both settings, with a particularly strong impact observed in the emergency room setting.

Bonnie Maldanado is Professor of Pediatrics (Infectious Diseases), and of Health Research and Policy.
