Pamela Kunz: "Gender and Leadership of Clinical Trials in GI Oncology"

The National Academies of Science, Engineering and Medicine (NASEM) released a provocative report in August 2018 entitled “Sexual Harassment of Women: Climate, Culture, and Consequences in Academic Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine.” Consequences of this discrimination and harassment of women in medicine can include striking disparities in leadership roles, authorship, academic rank, salaries and research funding. Opportunities to serve as the principal investigator (PI) on clinical trials serve as important currency in the world of academic clinical research and can foster career advancement and promotion. Professor Pamela Kunz will examine the gender of PIs of phase III clinical trials in GI Oncology to explore if gaps in clinical trial leadership exist.

Pamela Kunz is Assistant Professor of Oncology in the Stanford School of Medicine.
