Faculty Research Fellows Lunch with Rebecca Bernert

Rebecca Bernert: "The Baby Penalty: Institutional and Federal Leave Policy and Relevance to Faculty Diversity, Development, and Retention in Academic Medicine"

Though gender parity exists in medical education training, women are grossly underrepresented in academic medicine among tenured faculty in the United States. Despite over 10 years of policy change, these numbers have changed minimally according to the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) reports. Professor Rebecca Bernert's talk will review work life benefits, and faculty diversity and development, including the disparate impact of policy surrounding family formation and medical leave practices. Current projects underway aim to evaluate the visibility and use of institutional and federal family-friendly policy and its impact on faculty advancement and diversity, as well as physician burnout and retention.

Rebecca Bernert is Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences.
