Alicia Sheares: "That’s a Problem I Never Have to Face.” Black Entrepreneurship at the Intersections
This study examines the intersection of race, gender, and geography in the technology industry, focusing on Black tech entrepreneurs in Silicon Valley and Atlanta. Despite the industry's global impact, opportunities remain disproportionately distributed along racialized and gendered lines. Through qualitative analysis, Assistant Professor Sheares investigates how Black tech entrepreneurs navigate industry-specific challenges and the strategies they employ to overcome them. This talk highlights the intersectional experiences of Black women entrepreneurs, addressing compounded challenges such as sexual harassment, stereotyping, and dismissal from venture capitalists. By illuminating these dynamics, this research contributes to a nuanced understanding of diversity and inclusion in the technology sector.
Alicia Sheares is Assistant Professor of Management Science & Engineering.
