Iris Gibbs: "Pioneers and Powerhouses: Documenting the Legacies of Black Women Physicians at Stanford"

Black women are at once hypervisible yet  invisible in the pages of history. Black women physicians have shaped the landscape of modern academic medicine, yet their stories often remain untold. This talk describes the framework for documenting the journeys of former and current Black women physician faculty of the Stanford professoriate, unveiling their groundbreaking contributions, the barriers faced, and the strategies employed to navigate academic medicine. Through personal narratives and shared themes, this presentation sheds light on the resilience, advocacy, and lasting impact of these trailblazers, inspiring a deeper conversation about equity, inclusion, and systemic change in medical academia.

Iris Gibs is Professor of Radiation Oncology (Radiation Therapy) and, by courtesy, of Neurosurgery.

Clayman Faculty Affiliates are welcome to attend the lunch seminars.  All Stanford academics are eligible to become Clayman Institute Faculty Affiliates. Please RSVP to Lea Gottlieb (lgottlie [at] stanford.edu (lgottlie[at]stanford[dot]edu)) if you wish to attend.
