Emily Carian is a PhD candidate in Sociology. Her research examines how cultural, identity, and status processes, particularly in regard to men and masculinity, contribute to persistent gender inequality. To construct a broad theory of backlash to feminism, her mixed-methods dissertation compares the micromobilization of men who are feminists and men who are men's activists, and experimentally tests the mechanisms underlying resistance to gender diversity initiatives.
