Michelle Mercer has worked in the nonprofit sector, government, and the law and is especially passionate about feminist issues, immigrant rights and women’s reproductive rights. Michelle currently serves on the board of the Immigrant Legal Resource Center in San Francisco. Michelle has worked as a Legislative Aide to State Senator and Democratic Majority Leader Barry Keene in Sacramento, as a federal law clerk for US District Court Judge Thelton Henderson in San Francisco and as the Development Director for the Coalition for Immigrant, Refugee, Rights and Services in San Francisco. Michelle’s prior nonprofit board work includes being Vice-Chair of Seeds of Peace in New York, Board Chair of Park Day School in Oakland, California, Treasurer of Seeds of Peace UK Advisory Board in London, member of The Green Music Center Board of Advisors in Sonoma County, California and board member of the East Palo Alto Community Law Project in East Palo Alto, California. Michelle and her husband are co-owners of M-G Vineyards LLC in Sonoma County, California where they make wine and olive oil. Michelle has lived abroad in Latin America, Asia and Europe for a total of 15 years. Michelle had a Rotary Scholarship which took her to Lima, Peru from 1982-1983, lived in Hong Kong from 1988-1991 and in London, England from 2002-2013. Michelle has dual citizenship from the UK and the US. Michelle graduated with honors from Stanford University, with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science in 1981 and from Stanford Law School in 1986.
