Rebecca Leylek is a PhD Candidate in the Immunology Program. She received her B.S. in Biology from Duke University in Durham, NC. Rebecca researches dendritic cells, the sentinels of the immune system, in the Idoyaga Lab. Her thesis research focuses on plasmacytoid dendritic cells (pDCs), which are important for initiating the anti-viral response, but can cause pathology or autoimmunity if not properly regulated. Rebecca is investigating sex differences in the function and regulation of pDCs to better understand sex bias in autoimmune diseases such as lupus.
