Artist's Reception: Elizabeth M. Williams, "Perception and Reality"

An Artist's Reception for Elizabeth M. Williams and her exhibit "Perception and Reality", which is on display at The Clayman Institute from January 16 - April 15, 2009. A Connecticut native, Elizabeth resides in California. She holds a B.S. in Mass Communication, magna cum laude, from Boston University and a Certificate in Business Administration, with distinction, from the University of California, Berkeley. About her photography Elizabeth states, "While aware that with labels come limitations, my work tends to examine the dynamics of human perception. I like to use the photographic medium to re-contextualize and re-appropriate images from our material world, throwing into question our habitual points of reference and reliance upon known contexts for meaning, as I assert that we have a tendency to approach situations from a conditioned point of view, seeing what we expect to see in anticipation of getting ground under our feet. I invite viewers to experience my work from a place of empty mind and go beyond the perceptual status quo. When a viewer asks, 'What's that?', then I feel I have stimulated that exploration. The contents of my work are never staged; I shoot as I see." Each of Elizabeth's photographs has a limited printing. Matting and framing are available.
