Stanford Bookstore Event: Margo Davis in Conversation with Professor Clayborne Carson

Join us for an event co-sponsored by the Martin Luther King, Jr. Research and Education Institute and the Clayman Institute for Gender Research with Margo Davis, in conversation with Professor Clayborne Carson. Margo Davis is an accomplished photographer and guest lecturer, who will discuss stories from her new book, "Antigua: Photographs 1967-1973." Clayborne Carson is a Professor of American History and Director of the MLK Jr., Research and Education Institute at Stanford.

When Margo Davis visited Antigua for the first time in July of 1967, she was struck by the faces of these villagers. It is here that her passion for portraiture began. From this point to the present, her gaze has been on the landscape of the face and she has produced a body of work that reflects this interest on every inhabited continent. When the Antiguan photographs were made, very little had changed from earlier colonial times. These stunning images have now become iconic. It is for this reason that Nazraeli Press is presenting this exquisite new monograph focusing on the people and culture of African heritage in the New World.
